MCI introduced a new pattern for the MBBS yearly exams
Students taking admissions in MBBS courses will now have to appear for the exam under new pattern. The new pattern has been introduced by the Medical Council of India (MCI) under which students will be assessed on the basis of their practical knowledge about the subject (internal assessment) and in order to pass the exams students will be required to score minimum 50% marks. Exam controller KGMU, Dr. AK Singh said that MCI has issued new guidelines for the academic session 2019-20. Under the new guidelines the internal assessment of the students will be done on the basis of their practical knowledge and now students will get the opportunity to work on the patients from the first year of the graduation. Also the passing marks of the internal assessment have been increased from 33 percent to 50 percent. Students who will score 50 percent will only be allowed to sit in the yearly exams. Also, the marks scored by the students in the internal assessment will not be added to the final marks Dr. AK Singh also told that KGMU has approved the new examination pattern and it will be implemented in all the medical colleges of the nation. MCI has also prepared the time table for the exams and all the colleges will be required to conduct the exams within a specified period of time. MCI has also introduced a foundation course for the new medical students and before the commencing their official course studies students will be given basic knowledge about the medical course under the foundation course. The newly introduced foundation course will be one month long.
