CBI arrested six for hacking BITS Pilani online entrance exam
The CBI has arrested six people in the case of deploying remote desktop technology to facilitate cheating to the students during the BITS Pilani online entrance exam. In a statement CBI said “The accused had resources to manage the online examination of BITS, Pilani, wherein the experts arranged by the accused would be providing answers by using remote desktop technology from an unknown destination for an amount ranging from Rs 10-12 lakh.” CBI also claimed to have found digital evidence including cash worth 33 lakh. CBI further said that the Managing Director of New-Delhi based private education service (also implicated in the crime) along with his partner will identify the parents who were ready to pay a bribe for their children to crack the exam using the illegal means. The partner in crime is the owner of the Ahmedabad and Vadodara-based examination centers which conduct the BITS SAT exam, CBI added. The remote desktop technology facilitated the hackers to access the exam screens of the candidates and mark the answers on their behalf. The accused include MD of a private company in New Delhi, owner of the Ahmedabad-based education institute, two cyber specialists and the owner of Ahmedabad- based examination center.
