Mizoram schools to charge 50 percent fee during the lockdown
An official on Tuesday said that private schools in Mizoram will only charge 50 percent fee from the students during the lockdown period. The decision was taken at a meeting which was attended by officials of the education department, students’ bodies, Mizoram Independent School Association (MISA), and other stakeholders. The decision was taken after several appeals were raised by students’ bodies to not to charge fee during the lockdown period. It was also decided that schools which have charged the complete fee for April will not charge any fee in May. Education Minister Lalchhandama Ralte, urged all school owners to understand the tight position of the students and parents due to the unprecedented crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak. MISA, an umbrella body earlier said that schools will charge full fee from the students as they have to pay their employees. However, the decision was highly opposed by Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) and Mizo Students Union (MSU) as this would place immense pressure on the students coming from EWS category.
